2023.1.1175.2 Measurement Tool
Overview
The measurement tool is used to make measurements in the scene. The measurement points can be aligned to a specific object to have them follow object movement and make measurements between moving objects.
An example of a linear measurement.
Where to find
The Measurement Tool can be found under Prespective Menu > Scene/Hierarchy > Measurement Tool
This will open the following feature window:
Feature Parameters
| Tool Properties |
|
1 | Precision (#digits) | The number of decimals used for measurements. |
2 | Mode | Used to switch between linear and radial measurement. |
| Point Properties |
|
3 | Free and Lock mode | Free mode does not move the measurement point when the object is moved. |
4 | Game object field | Shows the object this measurement point tracks. |
5 | Set object center | Moves the measurement point to the center of the defined game object. |
| Results |
|
6 | (Linear) Distance | Shows the vector between the two measurement points and the distance between them. |
6 | (Radial) Radius | Shows the radius of the calculated circle for the three measurement points. |
6 | (Radial) Circumference | Shows the circumference of the calculated circle for the three measurement points. |
How to use
Start the Measurement Tool from the Prespective Menu
Linear Mode
Select Linear Mode
Create two measurement points by clicking on object vertices in the scene view. The GameObjects will be registered at Point 1/2 in the MeasurementTool window.
Adjust misplaced points once all points required have been placed. To use vertex snapping: Press and hold V key and drag the measurement points.
Use the center button to set the measurement points to the center of the assigned GameObject
Manual finetuning is possible by adjusting the values of the measurement point positions
Lock a measurement point to its object by enabling Lock mode. This way the measurement point follows its parent object when it moves. Enable Free mode to release Lock.
Radial Mode
Select Radial Mode
Create three measurement points by clicking on object vertices in the scene view. The GameObjects will be registered at Point 1/2/3 in the MeasurementTool window.
