2020.1.60.3 Mesh Query


Overview

This tool is used to select or hide objects in the scene that are similar to another initially selected object. Selection is done through numerous different filtering options, such as mesh properties or object name.


Where to find

The feature can be found under Utilities > Mesh Tools > Mesh Query.

Transform

The object you wish to use in the Query operation.

Initialize

Initializes the tool after selecting the object.

Filter by

The filtering options, as described below. Only objects to which all selected filters apply will be found by the Query operation.

Size

Filter equal or below given object size (based on the bounding box of the object).

  • Deviation: The amount of deviation in size that is allowed for a positive hit.

Mesh Area

Filter by mesh area (the sum of the area of all triangles on the mesh).

  • Deviation: The amount of deviation in mesh area that is allowed for a positive hit.

Mesh Volume

Filter by mesh volume.

  • Deviation: The amount of deviation in mesh volume that is allowed for a positive hit.

Name

Filter by object name.

Material

Filter by material. Only objects that share all materials with the initial object will be found.

Triangle Angles

Filter by comparing the angles of the triangles in the mesh. This provides the most accurate result.

Has X

Filter by checking if the component specified as X is present on the object

Operators

 

Select Matching Meshes

Selects all objects in the scene to which the filters apply.


How to use

  1. Drag an object into the Transform field, or select an object directly from the field selector.

  2. Click on the Initialize button to initialize the tool before you start filtering.

  3. Select the filter settings you wish to use under Mesh filtering on similarities.

  4. Then either press Select Matching Meshes to select objects that are similar to the selected object.
